James (Jimmie) W. Grace born on Aug. 2nd, 1903 in Pike, Mississippi, USA and died on Feb. 10th, 1974 in Bolivar, Tangipahoa, Louisiana, USA. He is currently buried in East Fork Baptist Church Cemetery in Kentwood, Tangipahoa, Louisiana, USA.
Jimmie came into this world through his parents George W. Grace (3/20/1852 – 2/21/1931) and Amanda Emma Sophronia Schilling (1877 – 1952) on August 2nd, 1903 in Pike, Mississippi. Jimmie is their first child at ages 49 and 26 respectively, he ends up with 6 younger sisters: Velma (2 years younger), Susie (5 years younger), Annie (7 years younger), Lucy (9 years younger), Maggie “Fronie” (12 years younger), and Sallie (15 years younger). Jimmie might have an older half-sister but this information has yet to be confirmed.
During this time, Jimmie’s family lived in Police Jury Ward 4 in Tangipahoa, Louisiana according to the 1920 Census. At Police Jury Ward 2, Jewell Mae Varnado (05/16/1906 – 01/20/1960) resided with her family. Just 6 years later, Jewell and Jimmie married on January 6th, 1926 in Tangipahoa, Louisiana.
In the summer of 1929, Jimmie and Jewell introduced their first two children, Emily L. Grace and her twin (Unnamed), into the world on the 17th of August. The twin unfortunately did not survive. At this time Jimmie was aged 26 and Jewell aged 23.
Three years later, Jimmie and Jewell bring Clyde Marion into their arms on November 11th, 1932. At ages 35 and 32 respectively, Jewell gives birth to Robert Leche and his twin on October 13th, 1938. The twin also did not survive. I can’t imagine how difficult this would’ve been bringing a new baby home after another loss.
Jimmie and his family live on Osceola Road, Tangipahoa, Louisiana according to the 1940 Census. 6 years later, Jimmie and Jewell bring their last child into their family unit, Martha Elizebeth on February 22nd, 1944 at ages 41 and 38.
By the 1950 Census, Jimmie was working as an inspector at a Gas Company and living on Washesborough Road, Tangipahoa, Louisiana. His son, Robert, states that as he was growing up they had little money and his father was always looking for a job. While growing up in their small house, he mentions the dirt floor and the clothes that didn’t fit.
In 1960, Jewell passes away at age 54. I haven’t found information on what happened.

It is suspected that Jimmie married again after Jewell’s passing but the end of Jimmie’s life is unknown at this time.

Jewell and Jimmie had several children and a few miscarriages as told by Mary Grace (Robert L. Grace Senior’s Wife). The Family bible has notes of the family. Emily was a twin as well as Bob (R.L.G). Their twins passed away.
